From Calvinism Arose the Protestant Work Ethic

In The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Max Weber discusses how modern Capitalism arose from the Protestant work ethic. The Protestant work ethic arose from the early Calvinist doctrine which believed in predestination.

People believed that it did not matter how you acted or what you did while on Earth, because they believed that God had already chosen who would go to Heaven or who would go to Hell. However, they viewed the accumulation of favored goods and resources as a sign from God that you were “a chosen one;" destined for Heaven.
